Austin Chod manages the model shop in Studio Gang’s New York office. Using both digital and analog methods, he works closely with design teams to develop physical models for each project that advance design concepts, explore materials, and coordinate building systems. Austin has a special interest in how developing technologies and strategies are opening up new possibilities for architectural form- and pattern-making and was drawn to Studio Gang in large part for the office’s ability to realize designs that challenge the status quo. Prior to joining the Studio, he worked as model shop manager and modelmaker in the New York offices of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and Santiago Calatrava.
A St. Louis native, Austin holds a double Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture and Environmental Studies from Washington University in St. Louis with a minor in Furniture Design. When not building architectural models, he can be found making all sorts of other things—sculptures, furniture, VR experiences, watercolors—or playing and listening to music.
