Charles Curran is a Design Director in the Studio’s New York office. With over 15 years of experience leading projects, Charles is adept at guiding complex teams to advance conceptual ideas into developed schemes—all while building consensus with clients and stakeholders throughout. With a particular interest in exploring adaptive reuse opportunities for aging civic structures, Charles is drawn to architecture that reinvigorates its surrounding community and ecology.
Prior to joining Studio Gang, Charles worked as a Director and Senior Associate at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, where he led the design phases of several significant projects, including Google’s Pier 57 Workplace and Event Center and the University of Chicago’s Rubenstein Forum, as well as over a dozen competition-winning entries for the firm.
Beyond his experience in practice, Charles has also taught design studios and workshops at Columbia, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania, and is engaged with the Architectural League of New York, the Storefront for Architecture, and Open House New York.
Charles holds a Master of Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Columbia University. Outside of the office, he enjoys running, swimming, and exploring new–and old–cities.
