Collections Care Intern

Office: Chicago

Studio Gang is seeking a summer intern to support the care, management, and interpretive display of our archival collections in our Chicago office. Collections in the Studio Gang Visible Archive include sketches, architectural drawings, architectural models, digital design records, press clippings, and other documents and objects. The focus of this internship will be the care, storage, and management of our architectural models.

While working with this specialized object type in the Studio’s Archive, the intern will become familiar with collections management practices and procedures in a unique corporate design archive and gain hands-on experience managing three-dimensional objects. Interns will assist staff with cataloging and housing objects as well as managing their information in the Studio Archive’s collections management software (CMS).

 

Responsibilities:
• Create or edit object records in CollectorSystems, the Studio Archive’s CMS
• House objects in archival storage containers, which will include the construction of custom archival boxes
• Other tasks or projects depending on the intern’s interest and experience

 

Requirements:
• Current enrollment in an accredited university for museum studies, library and information science, or a similar field is required
• Coursework or experience in basic collections management practices preferred
• Strong organizational and management abilities, with a keen eye for detail
• Familiarity with databases and spreadsheets
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and use time efficiently
• Interest or coursework in art history, architectural history, or a related field is a plus

 

The salary range for this position at the time of posting is $20 per hour.
