The City of Toronto and CreateTO announced the Kilmer Group and Tricon Residential (Kilmer-Tricon) as the preferred proponents for the redevelopment of the City-owned sites at 610 Bay St. and 130 Elizabeth St. – home to the decommissioned Toronto Coach Terminal.
610 Bay Street will include much-needed rental homes in the heart of the city within walking distance of the TTC subway. The development will be 100 per cent purpose-built rentals with 873 new units, including 290 affordable rentals.
The development, designed by award-winning architecture firm Studio Gang, will consist of two towers, 16-storeys and 41-storeys, with residential, retail and community elements, separated by a public plaza that will restore connections between the surrounding neighbourhoods. The design of the development is rooted in the Indigenous principle of the Seven Directions of Connectedness while celebrating the historical importance and character of the iconic Art Deco Coach Terminal.
“We need to build more affordable homes in Toronto. That’s why I am so pleased that this project will transform the former Toronto Coach Terminal into not only new rental and affordable housing, but a thriving hub with healthcare facilities and space for small business to start and grow. This project sets a high bar for how we can build more homes, while celebrating our City’s history and embracing Indigenous knowledge as we build new communities,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow.
Reimagining the Toronto Coach Terminal site at 610 Bay Street presents an exciting opportunity to preserve a heritage asset while enabling the delivery of affordable housing and other city-building benefits.
