Jeanne and Studio Gang Featured in MAXXI's Buone Nuove Exhibition

Jeanne and Studio Gang are featured in a new exhibition at the Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo (MAXXI) in Rome. On view from December 16, 2021 through September 11, 2022, Buone Nuove: Donne in architettura (Good News: Women in Architecture) brings together the work of groundbreaking women designers from across history and the globe, showcasing the critical work of historical figures and groups including Charlotte Perriand and the collectives of the 1970s, as well as more recent figures.

Representing Jeanne’s unique contribution to this historical trajectory are models, sketches, and other materials from the Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at the American Museum of Natural History. Currently under construction and expected to open in late 2022, the Gilder Center features a spectacular Central Exhibition Hall, whose smooth, porous structure is revealed in the pavilion-size 1:10 scale model on display.

Modeled for the exhibition in layers of coated cardboard, the actual Central Exhibition Hall is being constructed by spraying liquid concrete onto matrices of rebar shapes. Eliminating the waste created by typical formwork, this fluid application of concrete achieves a visually- and spatially-continuous interior that “turns outward” to form a welcoming major entrance to the museum.

Studio Gang’s participation in Buone Nuove is made possible thanks to the generous support of:
