Abitare — "Jeanne's Empathetic Towers"

“We don’t want these skyscrapers to be isolated and prestigious icons, but to participate in the life of the city by opening up as much as possible to their surroundings.”

—Jeanne Gang

‘Skyscrapers make up a major part of the work taken on by her studio, often distinguished by the consideration that the design of architecture can act as a mechanism of social integration, with projects under way or on the point of completion in Chicago, New York, Toronto, Amsterdam, and Saint Louis.

At the heart of Gang’s research is the “attempt to insert these vertical structures, which house a population equivalent to that of a whole neighborhood, a series of public places, that is to say space located on various floors that foster exchange, even by chance, among the occupants.”‘
