Studio Gang Senior Project Leader Claire Halpin gave the keynote address at the Alabama Center for Architecture’s 2018 Awards Ceremony, honoring this year’s scholarship winners and newly licensed architects. Presented in partnership with the Birmingham Audubon Society, Claire’s talk highlighted Studio Gang’s methodology for designing bird-safe architecture, using the Studio’s Ford Calumet Environmental Center, Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo, Northerly Island, and Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership projects as case studies. Identifying specific building components and construction techniques that can improve safety for animals, and specifically birds, Claire showed how architecture can promote well-being for its users while also cultivating a vibrant natural ecosystem.
