Gia Biagi at SXSW Eco 2015

The Studio’s Senior Director of Urbanism and Civic Impact, Gia Biagi, joined Rebuild by Design’s Amy Chester, OMA’s Daniel Pittman, and the NRDC’s Rob Moore at SXSW Eco 2015 in October to rethink our relationship to water and its implications for the future.

As organizers explained the event: “Water scarcity, extreme storms, and flooding will all happen with a frequency that was not contemplated when our drinking water, storm water, and wastewater systems were originally built. … We need to rethink how we move water.”

Innovation is underway—and a lot of it is spurred by engagement with the design community to bring creative thinking and new ideas. In light of recent events in places like Flint, Michigan, this conversation is becoming ever-more visible… and necessary.
