Architect Nicholas Cecchi is a Project Leader in Studio Gang’s Chicago office. A graduate of Tulane University with a Master of Architecture, Nicholas was drawn to the Studio for its process—working in a way that allows each member of the team to add interrelated layers of meaning, depth, detail, and technics at every phase of a project. Nicholas brings a diversity of experience to architecture, from academic and professional practice to fabrication and design to criticism and praxis, allowing him to examine a project from multiple viewpoints simultaneously. He recently served as the project architect for the renovation of the public spaces in Edward Durell Stone’s Standard Oil Building (Aon Center) in Chicago and has worked on complex digital and analog fabrication projects for artists Marc Fornes, Vito Acconci, Larry Bell, Claus Oldenburg, and Jim Hodges. He is a published architecture writer and has served as a guest critic, lecturer, and faculty at Illinois Institute of Technology.
Nicholas lives in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood but feels a kinship with New Orleans, where he attended school, and Denver, where he was born. Outside of the Studio, he enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, cycling, hiking, and playing with power tools. His favorite landscapes range from Palmaisano Park in Bridgeport to the Steelworkers Park on the South Lakefront to Lost Creek Wilderness west of Denver. His favorite bodies of water include Clear Creek, the Mississippi River, and the Puget Sound.
