Project Leaders

We’re searching for experienced Project Leaders with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience to join our Chicago, New York, and San Francisco offices.

Project Leaders are responsible for leadership and coordination of project team members and consultants throughout all phases of design, from conceptual design through construction administration. This role will assist senior leadership in directing and managing the project team, mentoring staff, representing the firm to the client, and participating in presentations and meetings. Exceptional design talent and technical skills are required in order to oversee the planning and execution of project documents.

Requirements

- Five-year bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Architecture
- Advanced knowledge of drafting and 3-D rendering software (Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit)
- Prior project management and strategic planning experience
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Licensed/registered architect is strongly preferred

Office Coordinator

Studio Gang is seeking a proactive Office Coordinator to manage the day-to-day operations of its New York office and provide support to the Design Partner and the Marketing Principal. The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. The role requires strong prioritization skills, a desire to take ownership over tasks with high level of initiative and follow-through. Candidates with a background or demonstrated interest in architecture, design, or visual arts are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

- Office management: booking travel for staff; managing front desk activities such as answering phones, greeting guests, and handling deliveries
- Facilities administration: facilitating office meetings including conference room maintenance, equipment setup, and catering; coordinating and liaising with building management; ordering and restocking office supplies
- Leadership assistance: overseeing the two Principals’ calendar, travel and assisting with other administrative needs; managing expense reports, timekeeping, and correspondence
- Operational support and interoffice liaison: serve as a link between the New York and other Studio Gang offices; assisting with new hire orientation; assisting the IT Manager with employee hardware and software setup as needed; coordinating between HR team in Chicago and New York staff; and performing other administrative duties as assigned

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree
- Previous experience in an administrative support role or as an executive assistant preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience managing multiple calendars in Outlook
- Experience booking travel
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to deliver a consistently high level of service with professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality
- Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of the firm, clients, and subcontractors

Design Technology Leader

Studio Gang is seeking a Design Technology Leader to ensure the Studio is effectively utilizing the latest digital tools and technologies in the design process. The primary role of the Design Technology Leader will be unifying the office’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) efforts for all projects through all phases of design. Their secondary role will be investigating, identifying, and implementing new digital tools and technologies office-wide, from VR/AR/MR to digital fabrication, robotics, 3D scanning, drones, etc.

This position will ideally be based in Chicago; a New York-based position can also be considered.

Responsibilities

- Develop BIM execution plans for all projects at project kickoff and other key milestones
- Provide project teams with the appropriate Revit template file for all project types whether starting in concept, schematic, or design development
- Aid project teams during initial model set-up and during the CAD to BIM transition period
- Author and implement standard BIM workflows and processes
- Perform regular project team model audits to ensure standards are implemented properly
- Assist teams in addressing complex geometries
- Provide team training and continuing education to ensure all designers are fluent with the various digital design tools
- Assist with RFP and contract language regarding BIM and other design technology usage
- Work closely with office IT team to implement inter-office and cloud collaboration platforms for BIM (i.e. Revit Server, BIM360, C4R)

Requirements

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or relevant field
- Excellent communication and leadership skills and enthusiasm for good design
- Excellent Rhino/Grasshopper, Revit/Dynamo, AutoCAD, and Navisworks skills; knowledge of Revit API and applicable programming languages a plus
- Experience developing and implementing BIM execution plans, BIM office standards, and BIM content
- Experience in the AEC industry with a working knowledge of all aspects of architectural services: master planning, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration/project delivery
- Experience with multiple BIM/CAD roles: training and support mentor, project team member, and strategic leader

Design Team Members

Urban Designer

Are you an architect with a passion for urban design? Do you thrive in a creative and collaborative work environment? Do you care deeply about the entire civic ecology? Do you feel comfortable operating across scales with agility and exceptional design ability?

Studio Gang is looking to add a new member to our Urbanism + Civic Impact practice. In the Studio, urban design is embedded into our architecture practice and we strive to design actionable, buildable architecture through urban planning and urban design.

The ideal candidate for this role has an architectural background with training in urban design and a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience. In this role, you will develop urban design strategies at a variety of scales while engaging closely with communities and key stakeholders along with project teams in all phases of design. Additional responsibilities include daily design and/or technical development of projects, research and analysis, coordination with design team consultants, community engagement, and participation in other design team presentations, activities, and more.

Requirements

- Excellent design talent in all phases of the design process
- Combination of professional training in urban design and architecture with a deep understanding of both practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of Studio Gang’s ethos and values
- A five-year bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree
- Experience with community engagement
- Excellent communication skills

Publications Manager

Studio Gang is seeking a full-time Publications Manager to join our team in Chicago. This person will bring exceptional talent in writing and editing, as well as a deep interest in publishing and strong skills in research, to support the creation of texts and publication projects that advance the ideas behind the Studio’s work and share them with diverse audiences.

The Publications Manager will work closely with the Publications Director and design teams to write and edit narrative text about Studio projects for use in a variety of formats. They will also contribute to the development and delivery of new publication projects: conducting and compiling research; drafting and editing text; securing images and permissions; communicating with contributors and graphic designers; etc. Related responsibilities will include copy editing/proofreading a variety of Studio documents, responding to external publication requests, and assisting with academic and other research investigations.

An ideal candidate will have strong editorial experience in a professional and/or academic setting and a passion for architecture and urban design. They must be equally creative and detail-oriented, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in English, history, or related fields
- Demonstrated interest and ability in communicating architecture and architectural ideas
- 2+ years editorial experience, preferably in an architecture or design environment
- Strong skills in Adobe CS (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Fluency in an additional language, especially French, is a major asset
