Project Leader - Chicago

Studio Gang is seeking an experienced Project Leader with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience to join our friendly and supportive culture of design professionals. Licensure is preferred but not required.

Project Leaders are responsible for leadership and coordination of project team members and consultants throughout all phases of design, from conceptual design through construction administration.

Required Skills and Experience
- Must possess and have demonstrated the design, communication and organizational skills needed to lead an A/E team through all stages of project design, documentation, construction, or project completion.
- Strong design and communication skills.
- Ability to generate and/or identify strong design ideas and concepts simultaneously with internal project teams and external project consultants.
- Previous experience as a team member on projects for a significant portion of the design and construction sequence.
- Experience with the on-going administrative management of projects including maintaining project schedules, reviewing project scope progress, project-related costs, pre-approving invoices.
- Exceptional time management skills for themselves as well as for their team and consultants.
- Advanced knowledge of drafting and 3-D rendering software (Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit).
- Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and graphic sensibilities.

Responsibilities
Included but not limited to:
- Managing all aspects of assigned projects.
- Coordinating the design, technical, and administrative aspects of the project.
- Organizing internal design reviews and workshops.
- Ensuring the design is advanced appropriately and iteratively through each stage of the design process.
- Working with Studio Gang’s Design Management leaders to estimate fees, determine scope of work, prepare, and refine proposals and contracts.
- Managing project budgets, schedules, and programs.
- Serving as primary liaison to clients, engineers, consultants, and stakeholders to bring schedule, budget, and scope of work to completion.
- Coordinating with Studio Gang’s Marketing and Communications team to prepare images and narrative for external press and promotion.
- Mentoring and developing other staff and team members.
- Participating in presentations and meetings as needed and requested.

Interiors Architect or Licensed Interior Designer

Studio Gang is actively seeking an experienced Interiors Architect or Licensed Interior Designer to join collaborate and support our diverse group of thinkers, designers, architects, and project leaders on a wide range of projects.

This person will work side by side with the Studio’s Design Principal leading interior architecture and Senior Interior Designer. As a team, they will advance the interior architecture for all our projects, which currently include civic, cultural, institutional, office, and residential buildings at various scales. This person will be a pivotal part of the team developing our approach designing from the inside out to create inviting, inclusive spaces for people and communities to enjoy.

The ideal candidate will be excited to engage our iterative design process, collaborate with team members and external stakeholders, and contribute to our cohesive approach to interiors and exteriors. They should be detail-oriented, highly adept at internal and external communication, curious and thoughtful. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing and testing of design concepts, developing details and finishes for inclusion in contract documents, research, procurement, and selection of materials as well as maintaining close relationships with clients and vendors. They will also have the unique opportunity to coordinate, guide and lead design reviews and workshops with project teams.

Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience as an interiors focused architect or licensed interior designer with specific experience in design and construction sequences
- Extensive experience with interior architectural drawings and documentation on a variety of project types (e.g., cultural, institutional, higher-ed, multi-family residential)
- Proficiency with drafting and 3-D rendering software (Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit) as well as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Knowledge of interior design detailing, millwork, finishes and products
- Ability to generate and/or identify clear ideas and concepts
- Ability to develop physical and conceptual connections to overall building design
- Excellent graphic, verbal, and written communication skills

PR Manager or Director

Studio Gang is seeking a proactive and collaborative Public Relations (PR) professional to join our talented Marketing & Communications team full-time in our Chicago or New York office at the manager or director level, depending on experience. Reporting to the Marketing Principal, the PR Manager/Director’s primary responsibility is to amplify the Studio’s impact by crafting compelling stories about our Studio’s values and work for diverse external audiences and media outlets.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, uniting visual and written assets to tell stories about the Studio that are clear, consistent, and resonant. The role involves leading the press and PR strategy for the Studio, working closely with clients, journalists and media professionals, and Studio leadership to identify, pitch, and secure strategic placements that enhance the visibility of the Studio. The PR Manager/Director will also work with external photographers and videographers to capture relevant visual assets of our work.

The PR Manager/Director will also work collaboratively with the other members of the Marketing & Communications team to enhance the visibility of the Studio and its leadership in strategic ways. This includes supporting a range of promotional and business development initiatives, from planning events on behalf of the Studio to coordinating speaking engagements and leadership’s attendance at key industry events and producing awards submissions. The PR Manager/Director will also be involved in the strategy of oversight of the Studio’s digital and social platforms – including strongly supporting an upcoming redesign of our website.

Responsibilities
- Alongside Marketing Principal, developing top-level PR strategy for the Studio, its leadership, and projects, including identifying key press, speaking engagement, and event attendance opportunities.
- Crafting project-specific PR plans. Developing and maintaining relationships with clients and external PR firms to craft project-specific PR plans and coordinating project-based events.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with journalists and key press, both within and outside architecture and design. Maintaining an up-to-date list of press contacts for the Studio.
- Crafting and distributing press releases on behalf of the Studio. Pitching stories to secure strategic placements in relevant print and digital media outlets.
- Coordinating press interviews for Studio leadership, including scheduling, developing talking points, providing background information on journalists and publications, and related tasks. Media monitoring.
- Leading tours of our offices and projects for external audiences, particularly members of the press.
- Developing promotional collateral for the Studio’s work and events, including project narratives and press packs.
- Working with the Marketing Principal to redesign and relaunch the Studio’s website.
- Coordinating and overseeing all photography and videography for the Studio’s projects.
- Collaborating with the Marketing & Communications teams on business development and promotional initiatives as needed, including production of awards submissions, coordination of speaking engagements, development of staff bios, and planning of Studio-hosted events.
- Working with the Marketing & Communications team to develop workflows that ensure consistency in messaging across all externally facing material, both print and digital.
- Supporting transition to and maintenance of PR collateral and data in systems such as OpenAsset, Deltek, and ConstantContact.

Required Skills and Experience
- 5+ years experience handling PR, press, communications, or similar for an architectural practice
- Bachelor’s degree or above in architecture, design, marketing, communications, or equivalent
- Strong organizational and management abilities, with a keen eye for detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop required

Designer – Model Shop

Studio Gang is seeking a Designer to join our Chicago-based Model Shop Team. Our team designs and fabricates models for all active projects and maintains our collection of physical models in our new Visible Archive and Gallery in Chicago, working in close collaboration with studio leadership and design teams. This person understands modeling as an architectural tool for design and will assist the team in planning and producing physical models and mock-ups for all phases of design.

Able to move fluidly between digital and analog technologies, the Designer demonstrates a strong understanding of the design concept guiding each project and connects all assigned tasks back to it. They seek creative solutions and develop associated research and documentation for those ideas to contribute to the design team’s progress. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a desire and ability to thrive in a collaborative, creative, and open studio environment.

Requirements
- Excellent study and presentation model making skills, craftsmanship, and attention to detail
- Previous experience developing design options that communicate clear concepts through physical modeling
