Unbuilt, designed 2003
Zhong Bang Village challenges contemporary practices of residential construction in China by transforming the traditional courtyard house typology to meet contemporary needs.
The proposed “courtyard fabric” is customized to respond to environmental conditions such as sun and wind and to maximize social and recreational use of the ground plane. Nearly all of the courtyard dwellings feature semi-public and private courtyards. The remaining tower units offer the benefits of high-rise living with unencumbered views and establish an identifiable landmark for the village.
